Pysanky – a Workshop

Friday 26 March, 10am – 6pm, FREE

The Studio, Nottingham Contemporary

Join Irene Hazan to take part in the Ukranian art of decorating eggs. Pysanky dates back to ancient times when the sun-god was worshipped. Eggs were magical objects that were part of spring rituals. They were later incorporated into Christianity. Some legends say that the fate of the world depends upon the Pysanky – as long as eggs are decorated the world will exist. Banished by the Soviet regime, there has been a renewed interest in the old art since Ukranian independence in 1991.

Book online at our website. (Because hot wax is used in this process, it is not suitable for those under 16.)

Nottingham Contemporary's programme of talks and discussions is jointly supported by The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.
